Well Hello Ladies, this is Sybil wishing you blessings from transformingtemples.com.
Today ladies, we will discuss the biblical description of what a Christian lady looks like inside and out. The bible presents a beautiful picture of her. Soft, reserved, eloquent, shining forth with God’s light and many are drawn to her.
If you know me, I have said many times I am a football fanatic. I love football and have been a fan for many, many years. This weekend I took a break to watch the NFL draft. It reminded me of years ago how I watched the games. I was loud, wild, crazy, swearing, and drinking beer after beer, after beer. But it also reminds me of what the bible has to say about ladies living a godly life. For me, I am just beginning this journey. God has opened my heart to the wisdom and knowledge of what this looks like. I walk in this knowledge on a daily basis, one step at a time. He is removing many unChrist-like characteristics in my heart that portrayed on the outside. Of course, I have quite a way to go, but I find comfort that I am submitting to Him to mold me and transform me.
Okay with that said, I have 3 things I want to talk about. I will keep it short and to the point. Those 3 things are Our walk, Our Talk, and Our Dress. And in conclusion, they all tie in together.(Let me give you an old-time Baptist testimony here, “I stand here today and wanna say alleluia, amen, when I surrendered, He gave me a new walk, a new talk and He clothed me in humility and holiness.”)
When we trust Jesus as Savior, He gives a new heart. (Ezek 36:25-27) Giving you a new heart means you have a change in your affections, your values, and a change of mind; and your will is given to Him taking you out of bondage. This is the beginning of the seed being planted to mold you into God’s woman. The more you walk with God the more your values are shaped.
Our Walk
Looking at Ephesians 5:15-24. I will grab my bible really quick and read this.
Okay, so this means ladies we walk carefully with wisdom as we learn from study of scripture. “Circumspect” means the idea of watching carefully so that you don’t stumble and walking intelligently, not in ignorance. She walks in goodness, righteousness, and truth. Not drunk with wine but walking in the power of the Holy Spirit. If you are drunk you can’t discern anything, you’re unable to make proper judgment much less wise decisions, and a poor testimony to the world.
These verses present a picture of a godly woman going about her day with God on her mind with a song on her mind or meditating on a scripture verse, she is in harmony with God and everyone in her home, spouse, children. There is joy, gratitude and obedience because she is walking a surrendered life to the Spirit. The mark of a spirit-filled Christian will reflect Christian character.
Last, wives submit to their husbands just like they submit to God. They understand the principle of headship and don’t view “submit” in a negative way. Actually, the word” submit” means “to rank under”. When I was in the Air Force, we followed orders and authority. This had nothing to do with one’s value or ability. A Captain was over a Lieutenant or an employee obeys their employer. A Christian wife joyfully obeys this order.
Our Talk or Conversation
1 Timothy 3:11 states “wives must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.” We have the responsibility of having good character, not sowing discord or being mischievous
1Tim. 5:13”) Ladies should not be gossipers, busy bodies in other peoples’ affairs.
1 Peter 3:4 we’re to reverence a gentle and quiet spirit. Well, what does that look like? Wives may not like this example, but here it goes, when a wife submits to her husband even though she opposes his decision, she gives a powerful testimony and Christ honors this. This is the picture of a “gentle and quiet spirit.” A gentle and quiet spirit is one that puts up with the demands of others without giving any demand for herself. She knows when to speak and when she does, she speaks words of encouragement.
1 Timothy 2:11 states that women should learn in silence in the church. This goes back to the chain of command. God, Church, Man, Women. The authority of man over women is something she understands as she submits to God. Tying into this is women do not teach men, in the church, however, they teach women and children and they have more control over or have many responsibilities maintaining the household.
Ladies, submission is the key to spiritual growth and ministry, we all have to adhere to it, husbands submit to the Lord, Christians submit to each other, and wives submit to the Lord and to their husbands. Single women are to keep busy in the things of the Lord, that they don’t become idle and get into mischief. They have more time to devote to study of the Word and serving in ministry, using their gifts and their time wisely. They model themselves from the lifestyle of married Christian women. It is time to focus with no distractions. It is time to let God use you. And last
Our Dress
Our dress consists of literally how we dress and figuratively, what characteristics we clothe ourselves with internally.
1 Peter 3:1-5 We clothe ourselves in humility. She shows honor and respect to her husband. She is not nagging or preaching, but devoted. Her behavior is pure; focusing on the inward person, not the outward appearance. She is not going to worldly extremes to be fashionable. She dresses well, but modest. Women Christians can be attractive without being worldly. It is not saying you can’t dress nice but is more about all the other extra fancy trends of the world. The point is not to draw attraction to yourself. We need to draw others to Christ and must represent that. She is modest in her dress. God prefers to see the beauty of your character as opposed to profiling for the world.
For example, spandex is not met for everybody and a more proper way of wearing them is with a long blouse to cover the butt; tops should not reveal cleavage or wearing clothing so tight it shows every curvature of your body that you know will be sexually appealing to men.
Okay, ladies, I know this is a lot to digest so we will conclude here for now. As I stated earlier, all three of the categories our walk, our talk, and our dress overlap and tie in together. I hope what I have shared provides a good description of the seed planting fruit of a beautiful godly woman. You may need to study the scriptures shared to enhance your walk, (you can get from my blog, this lesson is posted there.) you may understand more fully your responsibilities in growing into a godly woman.
For some, I recommend finding that role model and watch them. I do this often, in fact, my Pastor’s wife is a very reserved, quiet spirit, and when she speaks, it is always edifying. She presents herself well. So find a person who is living like a godly woman to emulate.
However, if you don’t know the God who is able to bless you with the ability to live this way, you can’t do it on your own. Nothing I have shared today can you partake in if you are not saved. Do you want to know Him and be saved? And ladies in Christ, we all have work to do. It a daily walk. Let’s pray
