Do you want results at times of crises or trials? Then we can’t calculate our situation from a human perspective because it always leads to discouragement. But when we allow God into the equation, it changes the results. This is walking by faith. Most of us know the story of David and Goliath. 1 Samuel 17:46-47 reveals David’s faith as the only One who can deliver and fight the battle.
This past holiday, a few days after Christmas I contacted Delta Omicron. I am immune-compromised because of several health conditions. I was severely sick with an excruciating headache, vomiting, diarrhea, chills to the point of using a heating pad for warmth, then fever and loss of appetite. I rang in the New Year in bed sick, alone, and miserable. After 3-4 days of the worse portion of the illness, I was able to get blood work. My white blood count dropped so low, my physicians were ready to admit me to the hospital. I was weak, my thinking was foggy, and I still had no appetite. It took weeks for me to get back to feeling normal and after repeating blood work my white blood count came up almost to normal.
Now that was my physical experience, but let me tell you what was going on with my heart and mind in the spiritual. As I lay sick in my bed, I prayed continually to the Father who I know is a healer, and who will never leave me nor forsake me. All I could do is quiet myself, pray, and wait on His deliverance. I knew He would do it. I listened to His Word on bible software the entire time rejoicing and calling upon His name, thanking Him for the healing to come. I refused to be admitted to the hospital because God had another plan. I had confidence and boldness in HIM to accomplish the healing that He provided. God used this time for me to grow more by meditating on His Word, revealing areas in my life I needed to surrender and things I just needed to change. Facing giants by faith works.
Goliath looked like a giant too big and powerful to defeat, but from David’s godly perspective his encouragement came from God, and this is one of the secrets of his life, his great faith in the Lord. Despite the criticism and discouraging counsel and bad advice, David trusted the Lod his God; and God rewarded his faith. What about you? Are you trusting God with your giants?
Today, consider reasons to live by faith or by sight. Life is a continual presentation of choices. When we choose to live by sight, transformation goes in the direction of ineffectiveness, immobility, and insignificance. But when we choose to live by faith, trusting God to direct our lives, transformation goes in the direction of godly usefulness, action, and significance. Whatever giants you face right now, take a moment to look higher and see that they are smaller by the God who cares for you and loves you.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrew 11:1
