WEEKLY TIDBITS
Being a dedicated Christian is not easy. Our society is not a friend to God nor to God’s people. Whether we like it or not, conflicts exist between us and the world. Why? Because we are different and have different attitudes from the world. In reading the Beatitudes, we find that they represent an outlook radically different from that of the world. The world praises pride, not humility. The world endorses sin, especially if a person gets away with it. The world is at war with God, while God is seeking to reconcile His enemies and make them His children. We must expect to be persecuted if we are living as God wants us to live. We must live counter-culturally, fighting off corruption in the world, and live a life of purity and faith.
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the humble,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
they will be called sons of God.
10 Blesses are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
