Have you tested/tried the Sword or do you run, deny, or ignore it? The Sword is an extremely powerful weapon. We should become very familiar, so we may use it properly and to our advantage. This weapon has far too many benefits to name. It is the best source of protection we will ever need, if we use it. If we ignore it we will never have peace. The Sword has been a weapon since the creation of the world. It accomplishes its purposes and never fails. This Sword is the Word of God. It is the Holy Scriptures. To own or to have this Sword, we must ask for it, believe in it and it’s power to transform our lives. In fact, it has everything we will need pertaining to life.
This Sword just recently protected me from the enemy, as I stated in my previous blog. It transformed my mind from turmoil and a tumultuous time, back to a sound biblical mind. If we don’t use our Sword we will never know the power of it, nor how it can save us. We leave ourselves defenseless. We’re open to the enemy every day. The title of this blog asks the question “Can the sword transform you?”, but a better question is “Will you let it?” Our transformation occurs when we study and apply the Sword. Why not use it, especially knowing it will protect us.? It should bring us joy with a desire to use it daily. The Sword represents spiritual growth and transformation into God’s image. The Sword is protection from the attack of the enemy. It is wisdom and knowledge. So, I ask again, why don’t we use the protection of the Sword to do battle for the Lord and not ourselves. We’re blessed to have it for our use?
If you know me, you will know I love football. It is one of my favorite sports. In football, you may have an awesome offense, but to be successful, you need a good defense to protect your offense. Both offense and defense work together to be successful in winning. The Sword, the Word of God provides both for the Believer. It gives us the principles to live by and instruction to defend ourselves from the enemy. Using our Sword daily will guard us against the challenges we face in life. It can enrich our lives, make them fruitful, build character, and balance our lives. Knowing this, we ought to be running to the Sword with joy and enthusiasm. Yet, many Christians don’t pick up the powerful weapon. Not utilizing the Sword, not getting familiar with our Sword leaves us open to all the wrong things. We become vulnerable to worldly thinking and living. Do you know what this does? It will make us to be deceived, to feed into the lies, and deception of the adversary. The Sword is the one and only truth. It cuts and penetrates the heart, mind, and soul. The cut of the Sword is useful if it draws our attention to those things we must change. When I took time off from work to renew and refresh, I was cut by the double-edged Sword. He revealed to me the areas I needed to address, the course of action, and how to apply it in my life. You can’t be transformed without humility and submission with our Sword.
If you’re a Believer and not using the Sword, ask yourself “why?” More importantly, you may want to examine whether you’re a genuine Believer. Today, many who have claimed the name of Jesus are mocking God by their actions and lifestyle. They have turned from the Sword to lies and the pollution of the world. This Sword can show us how to think right, believe right, and live right. Wow, what a powerful weapon to have at our disposal. Are we useable in the Kingdom of God? The Sword can make us become vessels for God.
It’s all about how we choose to use it. We can use it as our protection from the enemy, to draw conviction and change, (transformation), to share it to the world; or not use it, deny it and die. Imagine if we picked up our weapon every day, how powerful we would be to fight off the enemy, live in truth, bring peace in the midst of chaos, light in the darkness, and share hope for a depraved world. It is time to pick up our Sword especially in times like today.
Trusting God in the midst of all these things, we do not fear, yet many who name Christ as Saviour fear deeply. We have no reason to fear anything in the world if we trust the Sword of life. The Sword cuts through the fear and replaces it with great faith, peace, and joy in knowing that God will provide our every need no matter what is going on in and out of our lives.
During this season of Advent let us celebrate the King of Kings who was born to save us from ourselves. This has been a difficult year for us, but as we reflect on Jesus, be reminded that He is the only King we pledge our allegiance, our lives, and our heart. He is sovereign and nothing is done that He has not allowed. He has a plan for each of us. A plan that we should be more concerned about knowing and focused on. As Christians, this should be our hope and our joy, to know His perfect plan for our lives.
Let’s stop putting all our attention on the secular world. Let us stop fearing the world and daily life. We must have great faith and trust that God is in control of our lives. 1 John 4:18, KJV: “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” What do we have to fear if God is with us and for us? Using our Sword protects us from the pollution of the world. As the apostle Paul reminded Timothy, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” and equipping God’s people “for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16–17). Reading the Sword convicts, inspires, and helps us to live for Him and guides us into the truth (2:15).
