How is your heart rate? Is it beating at the normal rate? The heart rate can be affected by many factors such as stress, anxiety, hormones, and medications. Most of these factors can be addressed with proper care and attention. Extra beats can cause heart problems. Slow beats can cause problems as well. A steady beat is excellent. So, why am I writing about the heartbeat?
Because I wonder what type of heartbeat do we have for God. Is it a strong rate or slow rate? Is it steady or sporadic? Are we near-death or vibrant and alive? Are we vibrant about living the Christian life? As Christians, God has called us and placed a responsibility on us to share the salvation message. The salvation of Jesus Christ is for the world. So if God called you, your calling is to let everyone else know. No one knows as you know, the things God has done for you.
The reality of this life is people are hurting and without hope. All we have to do is look at our present-day situation. Hate is prevalent, injustice, fighting, sexual immorality, murders, political corruptness. These are the very things Jesus died on the cross for; in fact, He reached out and placed himself amongst the prostitutes, thieves, murderers, homosexuals, lepers, drug addicts, etc. These souls matter to God; they should matter to us. Jesus had a steady heartbeat for the souls of man. He lived it out daily.
You know I love football with a passion. The thrill of watching the games makes my heart race. The hype of the adrenalin rush is overwhelming at times. Before the game, I prepare with food, drinks, snacks, and my team jersey or tee shirt. In this same way, God wants us to be prepared to give a testimony and the plan of salvation to those we encounter each day. He wants us to have the same enthusiasm with a deep desire to have others share in the joy of salvation just as we do. Are you eager to hear the voice of God?
God told us to pick up the cross and to follow Him daily. This means to surrender our differences, our egos, and our perceptions of what we believe others should say or act. He wants us to dig deeper, to have a consistent, steady heartbeat for His Word and the lost souls.
Do you have a heartbeat for God? Are you light? Are you helping the lost find their way to Jesus? Because if they are looking at the world, they can’t see the way. Let us have a strong, steady heartbeat for the Father.
