My comfort zone was staying home and around the familiar. Then, I became bored with life. I was terrified about meeting new people. I shied away from meeting people because I did not know what to say. I knew I was in a box. My fear crippled me until I met Jesus. He gave me much to say and confidence to speak. It did not happen overnight. God’s Holy Spirit did miraculous wonders in my heart as a new person began to emerge. Being in your comfort zone can hinder you from living your full potential.
Comfort Zones are walls we build up that we will not bring down. For whatever reason, fear, anxiety will keep you where you think you’re safe. I thought I was experiencing life all too well; however, I was fooling myself. Life began when I pushed through the barriers of my wall. I had finally decided to step up to the challenge.
It is effortless not to push yourself past your comfort zone. When I surrendered to God, I found success. I was free to live the life I want, taking on the challenge of fulfilling my dreams. God has given me gifts to use for His glory and not to be afraid. I began to step out on faith and trust Him. It was not easy, but I asked a few Christians to help me by keeping me accountable, so I would continue forward and not faint.
I remember years ago embarking on my first missions trip to Africa. I was overwhelmed and nervous, but it was my first step to overcoming my comfort zone. It was the best experience. It helped me move forward in coming out of the box.
A lesson learned is always to remain open to what you can learn. More opportunities open up for me. I was missing out on new friendships and learning experiences. God has given us everything we need pertaining to life. Even more, we have the power of the Holy Spirit to walk in our calling, exercising our gifts and talents to His glory. Our focus must be on Him, not man.
If you’re feeling anxiety and fear about getting out of the box to fulfill your dreams for the kingdom of God, trust Him. Take baby steps, build your confidence by studying the bible promises like, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Don’t get caught in the way of life that is comfortable and manageable to you and the people close to you. Push through the comfort to your full potential, where you can achieve and do better things. God gives you the power to change your life at any time. Your comfort zone is a dangerous place. It prevents you from improving; it stops you from achieving all the things you are capable of producing. Trust God, and just do it.
