Being single, I often enjoy my alone time. I don’t have to dress and put on make-up. I don’t have to cook if I don’t want to. I can sit and read, and not worry about other people, like what to say, and how to act. All the stuff you do when you’re around people. Most of the time, singles are complaining about being alone. For the most part, I find it enjoyable.
However, when I look at the life of Christ, I see another example. Jesus was always around people. His relationships were not superficial. He was excellent at breaking down barriers in getting to know people. He did not shy away from painful situations or many people with significant needs.
What I learn from this is Jesus wants me to be in community with other people. As much as I love to be home alone, I need to step out of my comfort zone to practice community and building relationships. So, I intentionally pursue relationships with others, even as a single Christian.
